Some things Ralph OMalley could deal with. Like insults. Most of the time, anyway. But some things were truly beyond his control, and having been insulted for being a human for the fifth time that day had him a little unhappy. It would be fun to do something about it, but the captain was due to birth out next, and so his choices might not have been the wisest of ones. The simple act of aligning metallic- and electromagnetic forces often invoked a strange reaction towards those doing so. Ralphs companion, Xsephotip, or, as most humans called him, Steve, was also getting the same treatment.
Ralph merely sighed and went back to work. The rather arrogant Thrynnian was the only one on board, and another ship wasnt due into this portion of the space dock for at least another six hours. He and Steve werent supposed to be here that much longer, but the way things were looking, that was a possibility. Ralph mused over in his head for at least the twentieth time that day that it might just be easier and more efficient for Interstel to simply rebuild the corridor. And this one wasnt the bad one. It just made him wonder about the shape of some of the ships out on patrol.
OMalley smiled a little bit as the somewhat expected tap on his shoulder came. I is thinking that we the need to adjust section 4, yes?
You read my mind, Steve.
Two of the Veloxis appendages sprang over Ralphs shoulder and deftly maneuvered a series of wires, to a rather humorous affect as he turned to watch the Thrynnian officer rotate and hover, head to the floor. One nice thing about zero-gravity is it becomes very difficult and time consuming to spin back around, and much more so to rotate to see the faces of such persons who might be behind you at the same time. The Thrynns tail was whipping in a fashion that could only be described as agitated as Ralph turned back around to take over for Steve. He maneuvered a few more wires to rotate the comm. Officer back upright, pulled a wire to kill all magnetic restraint inside the corridor, and reseated metallic magnets in the cieling so as to allow the Thrynn to turn and catch them floating along with him. Ralph and Steve had done so enough times to allow them to work fully in the environment, but it had been the first time theyd had the audacity to do so to a member of a ship.
It had also been the first time theyd been caught. Ralph look up to see the Captain standing just inside the porthole of his ship, arms crossed, and looking rather stern. He put his hand to the ceiling, spun himself around, and shouted Sorry! as the Eagles comm. Officer started pushing himself towards them. Steves hands went to work again, and all three promptly dropped to the floor. The Thrynnians face turned just about as blue as Ralph had ever seen one as he stalked back down the docking corridor furiously.
The Eagles captain stepped confidently between the advancing Thrynn and the defending party as the Thrynns dry tongue spat out What isss the meanninng of thisss!
You know quite well, Arheq. Back down, it is not your place.
They Thrynnians glare bounced quietly between the Captain and Ralph before he pronounced Ssstupid Humann, and stalked off.
Steve glanced over at Ralph nervously as the Captain slowly turned to face the two. He and Ralph quickly came to attention, as the Veloxi started. Many I the thank, Captain Rogers.
Dont start. Names and officer in charge.
Xsephotip and Ralph OMalley, sir. Officer in charge is Qinctox.
Good; consider yourselves reprimanded.
With that, the captain walked off, and the two had no choice but to get back to work, albeit quietly.
*Added note: Sometimes, I find to get better at things you must make an idiot of yourself. Thusly done.*
